Aap!Motion - FAQ
Where do I start?
Lost - we recommend the following introduction to Aap!Motion - Pedestrian Motion Panels
What is Aap!Motion?
Aap!Motion is a new communication medium from Aap!Global that creates animated motion pictures through the use of static photo frames WITHOUT the need of complex electronics displays or moving parts. Sequential frames from any film clip can be overlain in a precise fragmented manner that, when seen through a specially designed optic lens, generates motion picture animation to the enjoyment of any viewer in motion.
What are the components of Aap!Motion?
Aap!Motion consists of only 2 core elements - an optic lens made from strong acrylic plastic, designed to withstand outdoor environments and a printed picture, generated using an algorithm to separate and overlay the frames. Aap!Motion boxes can be made to any size, length or dimension.
Aap!Motion is simple and requires only the following:
Lens - a unique acrylic or glass lens serves as the custom lenticular converging light to create the motion effect. The lens acts a single convex lens that magnifies light through a prism effect.
Sequential Prints Printed Using Unique Algorithmic Blending
Option Backlighting. Aap!Motion works in natural light with or without backlights.
How does Aap!Motion work?
Aap!Motion motion panels work similarly to Aap!Global’s MetroVISTA subway tunnel advertising using the psychological phenomenon known as ‘persistence of vision.’ Aap!Motion boxes work at any pedestrian pace and will be effective in natural or illuminated light, with or without backlighting.
What size/shape are Aap!Motion Lens?
Aap!Motion can be made to any practical size. Aap!Motion however usually creates lens that are 50 Cm tall by 2 meters long for pedestrian usage. Lens can be coupled to create longer units of any length. The longest installed Aap!Motion installation is of 55 CM tall by 220 Meters Long. Yes almost quarter of a kilometer long inside a metro tunnel.
Where can one install Aap!Motion?
Aap!Motion aims to combine the advantages and enjoyment of motion picture media with the size and impact of out-of-home placement. Aap!Motion can be installed in a variety of scenarios and will be enjoyed by people in motion whether on foot, escalators, moving sidewalks or even inside subway cars. Possible examples include placement at Airports, Malls, Convention Centers, Cinemas, Casinos, Office Hallways, Arena/Stadiums - anywhere with large amounts of traffic.
What type of media content does Aap!Motion display?
Pedestrian units typically contain 2 to 5-second shots from existing TV commercials or client media - providing a unique opportunity to bring motion campaigns to the out-of-home marketplace. Before they can be used, sequences must be converted for usage. Aap!Global currently provides conversion services for clients.
What if viewers are moving from both directions?
The animation effect is reversible and will be enjoyed by either direction. For this reason animation sequences that work both backwards and forwards are recommended (Examples - A sequence of an individual drinking soda?
What type media content works best?
The animation effect can be created from any linear sequence of moving images, such as a shot originally recorded in film or video. A shot can come from an existing TV commercial or from stock footage. Live footage, computer animation, sequential stills, VR panoramas and object movies all work equally well.
What about frames-per-second?
A shot can originally be recorded at any standard frames-per-second rate. Printed frame rate will be adjusted to match individual pedestrian speeds.
What about screen ratios?
Motion Panels work with all common screen ratios and sizes (eg: 4/3 NTSC or PAL, 16/9 HDTV) or with any custom ratio.
How long should a sequence be?
A standard 4 meter long installation will hold about 5 seconds of animation. Animation effects is dependent on the size of the lens.
What are the suggestions for media collateral?
We recommend the following when choosing content to display:
– One continuous shot
– Bi-directional movement within the frame
– Depth of field or separation between foreground and background elements
– High contrast
– Bright/saturated colors.
In what format should media be provided?
To ensure the quality of the experience, clients should provide the selected shot in the highest possible resolution.
How does Aap!Global alter the movie sequence to work with Aap!Motion?
A video containing the selected shot goes through a series of “conversions which includes the transfer of video frames to individual image files. Aap!Global then manipulates the individual frames using patented algorithms ready for printing.
How often are conversions necessary?
Conversions are done each time a new shot is used for a motion panel campaign?
How long do conversions take?
The conversion process takes about two days.
What does Aap!Global provide?
Aap!Global can provide custom solutions ranging from fully constructed light-boxes to the lens itself to providing engineering services for installing Aap!Motion in Subway tunnels to sidewalks.
